Food and Specialty Goods

In addition to Powers, Food serves as a fourth power, capable of giving an additional boost to one or more of a frog's attributes for a single game. Their effects stack with both powers and spirit animals. With the exception of the Speed Ball, all bonuses are additive. (ex. 25% fruit bonus from Kiwi Kebab and 100% fruit bonus from Spirit Eagle will give you 125% total bonus). Below is a detailed list of all food items that can either be bought or sent/received as gifts.

You can buy and use food items at star level 8. You can still receive food items from gifts prior to that, however.

Warning: Although your cupboard can hold a surprisingly large amount of food, make sure you don't stockpile more than 32767 of one food item or you will lose your entire stock of that item. (This has occurred on one occasion, that's why I have to give out this warning.)

B. Chan's Recommendations: In this order: Chocolate Love (when available), Bacon Bouquet, Curvy Fries (for turtle users), and Gapple Sauce offer the highest points for your coins. Combine any of these foods with a fully upgraded Timelord, Fruit Master, and x3 (Inferno Frog if using a Turtle) and don't settle for anything less.

Standard Food Items

These are the food items that were available when Kroakatoa was initally released. Unless otherwise stated, the cost of each food item is 3000 coins. All food items are bought in packs of five. Today's Special reduces the cost of a featured food item by 20%, although on occassions the cafe doesn't apply this discount.

Ignition Sauce: When you reach Hot Frog, your fireballs are so hot its explosions are larger, give you more points, and removes more balls from the playing field. Perfect for Curve Clears.
  • Hot Frog charges +25% faster per match
  • +40% Hot Frog fireball explosion radius
  • +50% points per Hot Frog explosion
Candy Lei: (20k) This lucky lei (or what some people call it, a necklace with some doughnuts in it) gives you bigger clusters and less single balls. Very useful for keeping curves down and keeping a constant gap shot going, or maintaining your chain bonus. This makes it easy to clear curves as well.

Note on bigger clusters, fewer singles claim: The lei is guaranteed to give you fewer singles, however its effect is dependent on the week's board settings. Previous research on modding Zuma Blitz boards reveals the week's board file (aka the curve file) contains settings that control the difficulty of the board (such as how big clusters are on average, curve size, number of colors to use, and curve speed), and that food items and powers modify these settings by a certain amount.

Most boards made for Zuma Blitz are designed so that large clusters appear more often and at most one single will appear in a row, so a candy lei will guarantee that singles don't appear at all. Some boards, however (particularly the Summer Solstice Board) do not follow this design guideline and can have up to two singles in a row, so a Candy Lei will reduce this to one.

  • +30% more balls per cluster on average.
  • Ball clusters can be up to seven balls in size.
  • Balls will never appear as singles (if more than two singles can appear in a row without the candy lei, then this is reduced to one)
  • Balls coming out quick when a curve is clear will slow down sooner.
Hasty Pudding: This brown pudding speeds up your balls if you would like the effects of Speed ball, but used up your power slots on other things. Also somehow gives you more points for chains.

Five servings of pudding are given to you when you unlock Food Items.

During the week of March 19 a set of 15 Progressive Themed Policy Puddings were distributed to players for free.

  • +33% ball speed
  • +250 points for a x10 chain (not counting multiplier)
  • +100 points for every x5 chain after that
Pyro Popcorn: Explosions that occur on the field are much bigger, for those who love those powers. That's all there is to it.

Although the expanded radius can trigger additional explosive powerups on the screen, note it did not say more points for those powerups, so even though it's bigger explosion, it's still 10 points per ball destroyed. Destroyed balls don't count towards XP either, so don't use if you're level grinding.

This food item will no longer be available to buy on November 16, 2012. You can still get it by purchasing the Café Sampler bundle.

  • +40% explosion radius (whether it be from powers or hot frog)
Kiwi Kebab: (10k) More fruit, more often = more points. In tests, they don't appear more often than usual, but they certainly linger around longer. Plus, they are easier to collect.

Although this gives you one of the highest point values of fruit when combined with Spirit Eagle (at 461k), a few well placed gap shots with Gapple Sauce will exceed the benefits of this Kebab.

  • Fruit does not disappear until you collect them
  • +25% fruit value
  • +10% increased fruit collection radius
The Last Bite: (20k) Greatly increases your points that occur during last hurrah. It will scoop up more balls and therefore more points for any powers left over on the board, although you'd be better off collecting them and putting them to use instead.

Has four times the cost compared to Mega Hurrah on the old island.

  • +30% Last Hurrah explosion radius
  • +10000 points for each powerup left onscreen during Last Hurrah
  • +1000 points for each ball left destroyed during Last Hurrah explosions
Gapple Sauce: (10k) Designed for gap shot players, this improves the value of small gap shots, and decreases the score penalty for larger gaps. For pro players, it's almost necessary to have this to top the leaderboard.

This food item will no longer be available to buy on November 16, 2012. You CAN still get it, however, by purchasing the Gapper's Delight bundle.

  • +3000 maximum gap shot value
Key Time Pie: The simple pie gives you five extra seconds on the clock. It might not be much, but it stacks with Spirit Beetle, so more gapping power to you!

During the week of March 24 a set of 15 Progressive Themed Price Gun Pies were distributed to players for free.

  • +5 extra seconds on the clock

Potent Drinks

These drinks combines the effects of food items as well as extra speed that drinks provide that can be used to fuel your frog, and a limited supply is available for those who at least pursued mastery. They are not replacable at this time.

Ivan's Last Call: How about a shot of Hasty pudding combined with some icing on the top? Two desserts in one? Coolbeans.

A 10-pack of these drinks are given to you if you achieved at least one level of mastery.

  • +22% ball speed
  • +30% Last Hurrah explosion radius
  • +10000 points for each powerup left onscreen during Last Hurrah
  • +1000 points for each ball left destroyed during Last Hurrah explosions
Neil's Strongarm: That's one small step... towards greatness.

A 10-pack of these drinks are given to you if you achieved Level 2 Mastery or higher.

  • +22% shot speed
  • +40% Hot Frog fireball explosion radius
  • +50% points per Hot Frog explosion
J $oda Pop: Putting the extra pop in drinks.

A 10-pack of these drinks are given to you if you achieved Level 3 Mastery or higher.

  • +22% shot speed
  • +40% powerup explosion radius
  • +100% points per Hot Frog explosion
Hasty Jake Shake: A nice kiwi fruit shake that keeps you going.

A 10-pack of these drinks are given to you if you achieved Level 4 Mastery or higher.

  • +22% shot speed
  • Fruit does not disappear until you collect them
  • +25% fruit value
  • +10% increased fruit collection radius
Gann's Gapple Fizz: The extra fizz in Gapple Sauce provides extra speed.

A 10-pack of these drinks are given to you if you achieved Level 5 Mastery or higher.

  • +22% shot speed
  • +3000 maximum gap shot value
  • Decreases score lost from larger gaps
  • Reduces score bonus from extra large gaps
The Nickler: Extra lime with the pudding makes it both sour and equivilant to a mini Spirit Beetle with speed.

A 10-pack of these drinks are given to you if you achieved Level 6 Mastery or higher.

  • +33% shot speed
  • +5 seconds extra time

Specialty Food Items

Want something that changes the game mechanics a bit other than buffing up one of your powers? Try these specialties. Some food items require that you have a certain power active for it to have any effect.

Note: Most of them are horribly balanced and are not recommended for use by hardcore players, however some may have benefits that are not immediately noticible. This is a general catalog of food items they can make, which means most items might not be available in the shop at this time.

Hog Wild Sliders: Don't know what it tastes like, BBQ, maybe? Anyways these mini-burgers sure keep their 'Wild' portion of it.

Note: This does not automatically give you the Wild Shot power - you need to have it active for this food item to have any effect.

  • Number of balls before a Wild shot ball appears decreased by 2
Kroakatoa Wave: The power of a weasel is now available in a consumable package. It doesn't shoot wider, but cannon shots are more densely packed, leaving only a cone of broken balls in its wake. You could always transform into a spirit weasel and get a much wider angle of cannon fire. If you want cannons to become 'fire and forget' without having to worry whether you hit that powerup or fruit due to its wide spread, this is for you.

Note: Like the Sliders, you need to have either Cannon or Spirit Weasel active for it to have any effect.

  • Increases the density of balls fired from Cannons.
Gummi Nukes: Color Nukes were very understated, given they clear so few balls. So would it do the trick if more of them appeared?

Although it is documented on the official Zuma Blitz support page, this is the only food item that was never released to players - you will have to use Fiddler if you want to use this food item.

Must have Color Nuke active for it to have any effect.

  • Decreases the minimum time before another Color Nuke spawns by 2 seconds (Spawn rate of color nukes increased by 7%)
  • +500 points per Color Nuke used
Curvy Fries: Thank you for your order. Would you like to have curves with that?

The benefit is not in the points from Curve Clear, but instead the extra second gotten from each one, which can supersede a Key Time Pie if your main strategy includes clearing as many curves as possible, or as fast as possible.

First available in the shop on October 1, 2012.

  • +500 points from curve clears
  • +1 second extra time for each curve cleared
Shoo Fly Pie: (20k) The pie which deters disappearance of time balls on the field for an extra minute (not indefinitely as advertised), if you have a hard time getting to them.

Tip: Since the game's release, you can still collect time from time balls even though they have disappeared, negating the use of this treat. The only real benefit would be for an potential extra time ball or two to trigger during Last Hurrah.

First available in the shop on October 1, 2012.

  • Time Balls linger around for an additional 60 seconds before disappearing
Blue Velvet Cake: (20k) It's sweet, but it doesn't make much sense why you fire blue HOT frog shots (must be the ingredients). Blue Sauce was better.

During the week of March 14 a set of 15 Progressive Themed Flo's Cupcakes were distributed to players for free.

Substitutes quantity over quality (ignition sauce).

First available in the shop on October 24, 2012.

  • +1 fireball during Hot Frog
  • Your hot frog fires blue shots, giving you 200 extra points for shot and 50 extra points for each ball cleared
Smokin' Hot Links: These are actually delicious, but quite a few of them can equate to a hot frog when eaten in a chain. Ordinary balls doesn't satisfy your need to hot frog, chains are the only thing that matters. Previously the hot frog meter could go up from chains only, however this is not the case anymore.
  • Hot frog can only be trigged through chains - your hot frog meter will not go up via matches, but will not go down either.
  • Your hot frog meter will go up by one-third at x10 chain and every x5 chain after that
Ginger Up: (10k) This soda is actually quite lingering in taste after a while - it won't cause your frog to cool down either.

Tip: Although your hot frog meter can't decrease, you can still lose your speed bonus and your shots could slow down if you don't match them fast enough.

First introduced in the shop on Nov 28m, 2012.

  • Hot Frog meter doesn't decrease
Cookie Chain: Didn't like the points accrued by Hasty Pudding? How about a Cookie Chain?
  • x2 points to Bonus at x10 Chain and every x5 chain after that
Baco Bouquet: Tons of bacon strips = Baco Bouquet. Improves the spawn rate of ALL power balls.

This powerup alone was responsible for giving players high scores due to loads of extra time (one example being 3:44 extra time with Beetle)

First available in the shop on November 16, 2012.

  • Spawn time for bombs, cannons, and color nukes reduced by up to 3 seconds
  • Spawn time for time and multipliers balls reduced by up to 2 seconds
  • +33% extra time per game on average (assuming you get every time ball that appears in a game)
Animal Crackers: Eating these crackers doesn't actually do anything... except when you're a spirit animal, where it gives you extra points.

Overall you get 10% more points for Spirit Blasts for Beetle / Cat, 5% more points for Weasel, and somewhere in between for Eagle.

  • Must be transformed into a spirit animal to have any effect.
  • +750 points from Spirit Blast
  • +25 points for each ball removed during Spirit Blast
Cherry Time Tart: So Kiwi Kebabs aren't your thing? Some tarts should do the trick. They aren't as sweet, but will keep you going longer.

Don't be fooled by its small time increase; with Spirit Beetle around 18 fruit should appear with Fruit Master if you hit fruit immediately and you got every time ball.

This food item was never released to ZB players as of May 2013.

  • +1 second extra time per fruit.

Limited Edition Food Items

So you're one of those players who collect stuff from the news feed (or more commonly from their photo stream)? There's a few limited edition food items available only for players who do this. Most of these items are themed towards a holiday or event. As less than 10% of total players actually click and redeem these links, be lucky that you're one of the few that owns these items.

Combo Corn: Its sweet and passed around during Halloween, get some combos and they're worth something. Also VERY good for making long chains.

This item is only obtainable during Halloween Week.

  • +15% points from combos
  • Balls will never spawn as singles
Sticky Apple: (20k) It's quite sticky normally, but when it cools it's creamier. Still, it heightens your frog reactions a bit to the point where it seems that those balls are moving a bit slower.

This item is only obtainable during Halloween Week.

  • All balls on curve move 15% slower
Pyro Pig:(20k) What happens when you over-roast. Same effects as J Soda Pop.

This item is only obtainable during the Kroakatoa Island Luau, and on March 13-14.

  • Balls speed +22%
  • +40% explosion radius
10 Pound Turkey: Can your frog handle that much? Don't know yet, but it sure can handle the ability to rack up even more points.

NOTE: The 10x multiplier ball is not marked, you'll have to keep matching balls until you get it. You'll need x3 and Timelord in order to have a good chance of getting to 10x.

This item is only obtainable during Thanksgiving Week.

  • Multiplier caps at x10
Canned Cran Blast: Amplify that Chain Blast as well as chain bonuses that you accumulate.

This item is only obtainable during Thanksgiving Week.

  • Automatically activates Chain Blast
  • +500 points per chain blast
  • +30 points chain bonus
  • +40% Chain Blast explosion radius
Whipped Taters: Stuffing was made obsolete, (mashed) potatos with gravy were cooler. Finish up Thanksgiving with this.

This item is only obtainable during Thanksgiving Week.

  • Balls reach top speed 50% sooner
Candy Spin: It's a sweet holiday gift, but the main question is... do you feel lucky?

(In a game without powers, the chances of at least one spin appearing is raised from 15% -> 50%. 12% of the players will not see a single one appear at all in a game, and even more might not be able to get it. A proper Candy Spin as a Christmas gift would guarantee that a spinner appears instead of a fruit every time and raise the max spins collected per game to 10.)

You can only get three of them using this link.

  • Use for coins, not points.
  • Increases chance of Spinners appearing by 400%
  • You can collect up to three spinners per game instead of two
Christmas Cake: Speed balls up (since people were saying it was too slow). They won't come out as singles however.

This treat is available the week before Christmas.

  • Balls start to slow down further down the track than usual
  • Balls will never spawn as singles
Hot Chocolate: Chocolate so hot it's explosive with taste. (Does not help with hot frog.)

This treat is available the week before Christmas.

  • Bomb Power automatically activated.
  • 40% bomb explosion radius
  • Bomb powerup spawn rate +8%
Key Time Punch: Happy New Year! (Sorry, too soon.) This year is coming to an end, and we start again...

This treat is available around New Year's Day.

  • Start with 5 extra seconds
  • Every five time balls collected will give you an extra second
  • Shot speed +22%
Chocolate Love: Share the love, and get an extra second for each fruit that you collect, and adds points for each fruit. It almost equates to the extra time by using Bacon, so if fruit is easy to reach and can make lots of tight gaps, go for it.

This treat is available during Valentine's Week, for 15k coins for five of them, and on March 22, 2013. Although its normal price is 25k, it is never sold at that price.

  • +1 second for each fruit collected
  • Fruit worth 750 additional points
Shamrock Soda: Serving as an alternative to Ginger Up. You still got to do most of the ball busting work to fill it up though.

This treat is only available though wall posts on Zuma Blitz's app page. You can get 4 max during St. Patricks Week (March 12-18, 2013)

  • Hot Frog meter slowly fills up at 60% the normal decay rate.
  • Must make a match to start filling it up, and another one when it's filled up to enter Hot Frog mode.
Chocolate Eggs: Increases the speed of your balls and gives you Candy Lei effects (since it's chocolate and it's like candy to some people).

This treat is only available though one wall post during Easter Week (April 1), and you can only grab 10 at one time.

  • +30% faster shot speed
  • Balls appear in bigger clusters

Food from Daily Gifts

The Daily Gift allows you to send a free food item to a friend. They are by any means not random - what you can give is predetermined in (mostly) this order:
